Hi there,
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but does anyone know of any good local bike shops in the Eastleigh/Southampton/Hampshire area which they have had good experience with?
Thanks in advance

Peter Hansford in Chandlers Ford i've found very helpful. I've been into their shop in Olivers Battery in Winchester before as well, the staff seem friendlier in there but i've never actually used them for servicing etc. just been in for browsing.Road - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12777154&p=16943702#p16943702

Same here. I use the one in Chandlers Ford. Very friendly, helpful and honest guys in there.
I've also had good experiences with Hargroves in Southampton but I've not had them do any work on my bike. I've only had good advice and bought tools/spares etc.0 -
I use Peter Hansford in Olivers Battery..
Great bunch of guys, very helpful and friendly service, even on one occasion lending me some tools to do the work myself as they didn't have them in stock to buy ..!0 -
Brilliant thanks guys, thats about 5 min from where I work too! bonus0

If you're after servicing and maintenance type things google "the bike guy" or look him up on Facebook or twitter. He does some sales for spares etc and folding bikes.0

GA Cycles in Shirley are pretty helpful. If you're looking just for servicing and maintenance and would like to get hands-on, consider Tim Baker @ RideRide in the Millbrook area of Southampton. I can highly recommend his maintenance courses. Even if you're not doing a course he'll let you use his workshop and tools (for a nominal fee), and he's always on hand for advice or if you get stuck.0

Everyone has different experiences, but I've found the following:
GA Cycles are a bit helpful but weren't great when I bought a bike from them. They didn't seem that interested in actually making suggestions and engaging with me so much as just getting a bike sold. I know quite a few people rate them, though, and this was in 2006.
The Hub are quite good and have done some mechanical work on my bike which I've been happy with. Again not been that helpful when I've been looking to buy a bike.
Hargroves Southampton are often really busy and not very good at actually serving you but (the people I've spoken to in there have) give(n) good advice and have done some warranty work on my Secteur that I've been very happy with. They can be quite cheap for stuff too, and have an online shop to check prices!
Peter Hansford C'Ford seem to know what they're talking about but sometimes come across to me as a bit arrogant.
Cycleworld in Romsey have done some work on my MTB and been really helpful. I bought a bike from them too and found the experience a good one. Their website is pretty hit and miss.
So my pick is generally:
Hargroves or The Hub for maintenance I can't do myself (although Cycleworld are good, they're not convenient to drop a bike off at).
Peter Hansford, The Hub, or Hargroves for advice.
Cycleworld, Peter Hansford or Hargroves if I was going to buy a bike.
I really do think it depends who you get in each of the stores, though, and how busy they are.

Meant to echo that I've heard good things about RideRide and think his maintenance course idea is a great complement to the other services in the area. I'm quite tempted by the hydraulic bleeding course this week to see what they're like.0
