Can anyone recommend a large rucksack that I can cycle to work with that has ample room for work gear, gym stuff, lunch, bike spares etc etc....and maybe a bit of room to pick up some food on my way home!

Around the 35L mark give or take, would like to use if off my bike also when going away for the weekend, or go hiking or whatever...

Ta!

See other thread very near this one. I like my Osprey Manta 30L - has a hydration kit that you can remove, comfy harness, light and strong. Good bike pack, great hiking, loads of space, straps and pockets.

Rixen Kaul Freepack Meta is 26L, a bit smaller than OP but with adapter will fit on seatpost so no rucksack induced sweaty back

Not cycling specific but Sports Direct have got a 35L Karrimor rucksack in store for £19 or £18 online:

I got one yesterday for a bit of everyday use and hiking/cycling when I head to France in a couple of weeks.
Plenty of different pockets/compartments including a bit for a hydration pack and a section to feed the tube through. Got a vented back section too so think for the money it'll be very good value.
  • Another vote for Osprey. Great straps - sits well on the body and the airscape system keeps air flowing so you don't get too sweaty (compared to the alternative backpacks).
35 litres is huge though. (I have a Talon 22.)
    2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)
2012 Cube Ltd SL (the hardtail XC 26er)
    2014 Lapierre Zesty TR 329 (the full-sus 29er)

Didn't buy that one but while i was looking at it on Sports Direct I did see this one which I've just bought - should do me until i've got enough money for the Osprey!

35l ruck sack on your back whilst cycling, this is heavy and uncomfortable. I would get a rear rack and good panniers.

Just a quick one to say I still love this:

Might buy another one now for when it eventually breaks down!

100% agree with this. A few years ago I started commuting to work with a heavy rucksack on my back. 6 months later and I developed back problems, and my back hasn't been the same since.

Panniers are the way to go if you want to regularly carry heavy loads on a bike.

I bought the Osprey Talon 33 for commuting and hiking. Very comfy pack and tightened correctly will not give you back problems, also the benefit of having the Hydration Reservoir as well for summer.
