Campag Bottom Bracket Problem

Help!

I have a Ultra Torque bottom bracket on a Colnago Active Plus

I wanted to service my bottom bracket/bearings and check all was ok. Non drive side came off fine, but I had a problem getting the drive side off. And when the crank arm finally came off, the bearing was still in the cup!

Now I am f**ked. The bearing wont come out, I was going probably going to have to replace the bearings anyway. So I thought I could take the whole cup off and replace the cups as well, seems relatively inexpensive on wiggle.

Of course, I cant get the cup off! Infact, I dont even know which way I should be turning to undo the cup on the drive side.

For the purchasing of the cups I need to know what type of thread I have, I have no idea!

Any help or advice would be great!

sounds like you did not remove the retaining clip from the drive side cup.

the bearing is now just stuck in the cup.

I want to take the cup off, but which way do I turn to undo them?

you just need to know if your frame has an italian BB or not.
if it is not then as bellow

also keep an eye out for the C clip as for the bearing to be in the cup it must have pulled off.

You cups may have numbers marked on them - if it says 1.37"x24 then it's a BS thread whereas 36mm x 24TPI = Italian. Italian is RH thread on both sides whereas BS has LH thread on drive side, RH on NDS. Finally, Italian BB shell is 70mm whereas BS is 68mm.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

All was going so well, everything is replaced and sorted, but now I cant find the C clip!

Is it possible to buy these, if so, any ideas where from?

    Thanks

I'm not endorsing CRC, but they've never let me down, and their website is accurate in terms of stock levels:

Does that mean that the clip can be used as a tool to remove the bearing? Interesting...

How did you manage to get the crank off with the clip still in and leave the bearing in there?! Are you a weight lifter?

Foolishly, and with the help of a screw driver.

Well I am back from my holiday and have the clip. But I cant get it on, its as if the bearing isnt going on far enough to make room for the clip.

This is doing my head in now!

    Back to this old chestnut!

I have the correct bearings, and installed on the crank arms. C Clip is in place.

I am at a bit of a loss on the reassemble and how the ultra torque actually works. I thought that it would pull the two arms together, but actually only one side is threaded. How do you ensure that the arms are in far enough, and from my first attempts, how do you know that the drive side is in position and cant work loose?

    Thanks

there is a big 10mm allen headed bolt that holds it all together.

Thanks for the reply, but only one of the crank arms has a thread. I put it together outside, and the bolt didnt seem to do anything?!

    Confused..

you did put it through the unthreaded side first?

so fit it from the Drive side and tighten

Well what a clever system, or what a useless twat I am!

All together again, bearings seem quite tight though. Will give it a run out tomorrow and check again.

Only took about 6 weeks to sort, but I am back up and running!

    Thanks all for your help.
