Cancellara, even if it is in the 3rd week.

All bets are off if the weather stays bad mind. Then it's whoever was on the course at the right time.

I think Millar will be in the mix, too. But it's a brave man who bets against Fabian.

Cancellara seems to have had a quiet race so far by his standards.

    Him or Martin FTW

Surely bound to be Canc or Martin. Outside bet would be EBH as he had quite a good run on it in the Dauphine but cant see him doing it as he will probably be out in similar conditions to Martin based on the current GC. Chinny is a bit lower down so will lay down a pretty tough marker early on you would expect.

See, if I was Cancellara I would be pee'd off.

Spend all your time shepherding the Shlecks only for them not to deliver (so far), and after having to pace them up climbs and such, could possibly be too tired to really excel at your chosen field.

I fancy Martin to pip Cancellara. He's won on the same course at the Dauphine, plus now he's out of the GC race he'll be able to save his energy in the Alps, whereas Cancellara will have to ride for the Schlecks.

Millar, Contador and Evans to round out the top five.

More importantly...... what are the time gaps between the GC contenders likely to be?

How's Contador's seat these days? As well as whatever problems he was suffering during last year's edition, he already looked off during the Dauphine. Seemed to be a bigger question than fitness at the time, and there's already been mention of it this year. Then again, it could just be a crap excuse.

Spartacus of course. Then only stage this year he could be targeting. OK so Martin did win the Dauphine TT but then Cancellera wasn't there.

I can't see Evans or Bertie doing a good enough TT to beat the specialists - especially after 3 days in the Alps beating themselves up.

Of course they will both ride a good TT - but they will be trying to beat each other and not necessarily going up against the Martins and Cancellaras.

Martin will win, because Spartacus will be tired from helping the Shrecks.
    Amongst the GC approximately:
    Evans 0"
    Contador -30"
    Andy - 1'30"
    Frank - 2'
    Voeckler -4'

Because Contador will be thrashed from the Alpine attacks.

That is assuming Contador will lose time against Evans in the TT... I think it is more even than that.

Even though on exactly the same course during the Dauphine, Tommy lost 1'58" to Evans. And no way of knowing if TV was giving it full beans that day. Could be closer than you think, but may well be completely irrelevant by then if TV loses much more of his lead in the Alps (which is very likely).

Meh, that's his job. If he wanted to ride for himself all through the tour he should have gone to a different team.

Have there been in TT in 2011 where Evans raced against the Schlecks?

Andy and Cadel both rode Tirreno-Adriatico..............but it was only 10km long, so not representative of what will happen in a 40km test.......in the 3rd week of a GT........when both are at peak fitness

For the record, Andy lost 37"

He raced Andy in a TT in Tirreno Adriatico, but that was only 9km long, so not much use.

Plus Cadel was riding for the win whereas Andy was just there in the hope of seeing some pretty Italian girls.
