The Ramones 3 is 14.4kg mind.

For the money it is fine, just a bit heavy for all day trail riding and xc.

the longest (local) trail i ride is 11 miles! i dont think the weight will be problem for that! where does the weight come from on it (please dont say the frame again! but if it is are there any other parts that are heavy e.g forks)? are the dj d's any good? i cant find any reviews!

It's designed to be tough, so a mixture of parts - frame and fork mostly! The fork is ok.

so the fork wouldn't be the first thing i should upgrade (in the new year)? waiting for a trip to square wheels soon so i can enquire about specs of 2012 cube. have almost made my mind up. this is almost certainly too expensive but how much bette than the 3 is this?

It's good, but at that money you may as well get the Fury!

Oops! Just realised the al1 was a no-goer just like the fury! Only available in medium!

What parts would yopu change on the 3 first?

My mate bought a yukon and they are good value for the money, and if your gonna slowly upgrade as parts wear out well worth a look.

i think i have decided the ramones would suit me better, and help me progress into more aggressive riding. its a shame, the yukon (spec wise) looked like a nice bike.

    + 1 for the carrera. Got 4.5 / 5 stars on a trial test.

Also consider the Vitus bikes pretty good spec too.

Voodoo bikes are solid too with components above their price mark, if you can stretch to £600 then you can get a voodoo with a decent air sprung fork and solid groupset.

Also the KHS series of hardtails (alite) are also grouptest winners, if you can find a 2009/10 alite 3000 (think its around £600) its a serious bit of kit with manitou forks (worth £250 alone) and a lightweight alu frame. I quote 'simply cannot be beat'
