Don't know if anyone one here is into gaming, I know there's a few on the mtb forum.

I have a ps3 which doesn't get used very much this time of year but came across this

http://www.tourdefrance-thegame.com/

Just wondering if anyone has this or knows if its any good.

    Not good reviews I'm afraid.

Low quality as a PS3 game, with low quality graphics, repetitive game control and single player only.

General opinion in gaming that's not worth the expense.

Yes I've read a couple of reviews that were not too good but, are these people cyclists I wonder? I reckon it will only appeal to those who are into cycing in a big way.

The game looks decent enough, but my only worries is the gameplay would actually be poo. Alot of those types of games have potential, but they don't live up to their hype, so to say!

Same with the Harry Potter games, they SHOULD be fun, but they fail.
  • Am getting it for my birthday next week. Will have to dust off the PS3 as I've not been on it for a while.

It's the first proper cycling game isn't it? Can't expect it to be perfect, but hopefully if it catches on they can improve in future years.

i've played it for a total of 40 odd minutes since release and haven't touched it since.

I got pro cycle manager 2010 last year.

Honestly, falling off my bike brings me more happy memories
  • They have been dragging the same format out for years on the PC. I bought a reduced copy last year, must have played it for half an hour if that. Too much faffing around with strategies etc. Much prefer Packman !

Just a heads up, my local GAME store has now got this in for less than 20 quid

Must be because the Tour is over  it may be worth a shot at that kind of price!

I don't think that cycling really lends itself to computer games to be honest unless it is linked up to a VR trainer - shame they cost so much!

  • Got the game last week and tested it out over the weekend.

Quite enjoyable but it's a real time-burner. A bit more info and a few of my thoughts...

    - Each stage you ride 3 or 4 sections, e.g. start (to potentially instigate breaks), intermediate sprints, mountains, finish.
    - Some of the sections can be quite long, especially if there's not alot going on. e.g. the start sections can be a bit boring if you're just riding in the peloton. I found myself attacking just to ease the boredom (although I did manage to win a flat stage with Navarro by 9 minutes after a solo breakaway from the start!)
    - You don't actually do much steering of the bike. I suppose this is so you don't end up on the floor every 5 seconds. You can move your rider's position in the peloton about, but this is quite gradual.
    - You don't need to break too much going downhill. But you do need to break, I tried not breaking and came a cropper.
    - Only 6 riders per team, rather than 9.
    - I was a bit confused by the TTT, I was hoping my weakest rider would get dropped because he couldn't cut it. He didn't get dropped for ages and then when he did get dropped, Contador was riding behind him. I had to stop and wait for Bertie before getting going again. Maybe I just need to work out the TTT a bit more.
    - I was expecting a bit of button mashing (particularly for sprints) but there isn't any, which is a shame (IMO).
    - Perhaps a bit TOO realistic with regards rider abilities. I did the Alpe d'Huez stage as Bradley Wiggins as a one-off and he was WAY down the finish list. It was my first go though so I didn't really measure the effort and tried to counter a Schleck attack and went pop. I really doubt you could win the Tour with Wiggo, which is a bit disappointing (albeit perhaps realistic). Part of the point of this type of game is surely winning (in football terms) the Champions League with (pick rubbish team at random) Wigan.

Overall I think it's a good game. I played it for a few hours yesterday no problems, just had my PSP on hand for some of the slower bits. If you can pick it up relatively cheap, then go for it.
