If I'm on my own I take my hydration pack and store tools in there. If I'm with someone we share the tools between our pockets and if I/we know I/we can get picked up if all goes wrong then I/we don't take them.

Pump mounted on bike and don't bother with a waterproof unless it is raining and likely to continue when I set off.

£20 for a taxi home is a good idea and will add it to my kit.

I only carry money and a phone. No food, water and no tools for anything up to 20 miles. If it all goes wrong there's at least 4 people within pick up distance that I can call. I'm going to get organised for longer rides based on the shopping lists in this thread.
