Cwmcarn Changes?
I have heard that part of Cwmcarn is closed. The sections are at the highest point, the Freeride section and the cross country section. The rest of the trail remains open, using a short section of fire road.
I have been told that the bomb hole and tunnel are being removed. It was too much when they removed the drop-offs and wall ride.
Does any body have any news as to what is happening and why.

I was up there on the 1st and the trail was all open. No signs about any future closures either.Trek Remedy 7 2009

My mate went Sunday and said they were in the process of changing the freeride. One of our routes goes from the other side of the hill and gets onto the trail at the freeride section. so I know he has got the right place.0

hi mate, yeah the tunnel and 'corkscrew' have gone.....if you look at the rides section and the south wales ride thread (go to about 2 page before the last post) you'll see a post by 'squarepants' who sneakily had a look on sunday what they've done and he describes it there.
i rode it sunday but didn't sneak a look, at the moment there's just a fireroad climb bypassing the top section.
hope that helps
EDIT: it's not a fireroad climb, it's a fireroad descent..fast it is aswell not sure why i said climb :oops:0 -
Thanks welshkev, I'm going Thursday after work with a load of newbies I work with. They aren't up to the Freeride yet but I will have a look to see how any changes are coming on. I'll have a look at the post by squarepants.0

it's officially closed and you'll have to jump a fence with hazard tape on it!!
what time is after work? myself and silversladey are hoping to be there about 6ish on either thurs or friday0 -
Why has the tunnel been canned? I love the feeling of near decapitation running into that !0

Why do some changes happen, msotly because little plonkers who don't look to see the basic black rating go on it, crash and complain that its unridable or dangerous, then the council flattens it to make sure they can't be sued just in case0 -
search on youtube for princeruk...he's filmed the new section when he rode it last night :-)0

Amen to that i know my limits (very low) and I ride accordingly.
If i fall off and sustain an injury then thats Mountain Biking,
I stayed clear of the Wall and the large wooden drop offs that used to be at Cwmcarn, so i never rode them, but better riders used to enjoy them and its a shame they are gone.
Maybe all Mountain Bikers using trail centres should automatically be included in a discalimer which could be visible on a big board at the trail head.
Use the trail at your own risk and if you come off tuff no come backs on the council or land owner.
Going back to the changes on Airstream, i have seen the vid and I like the look of it, nice and fast bermed corners and a few role able table tops.0 -
I had a look at thevid but couldn't really decide on how it compares. The corkscrew was great fun as was the wall.
I never liked the new jumps with the dipped tops (God knows what the correct term is). I prefer the bigger table tops, thats not to say I can jump. I just enjoy going fast over them.
I'll have a ride tomorrow and have a look at it. If its open well Whoo Whoo here we go.....0 -

just jump the fance if you are there after the work ment have gone home (concil workers so anytime from 12-1 it will be no work men on there )
And 12-1 they will be on tea brake so you will be good all day
the new top is poo.
the new lower bit is almost great.
I dont remember now but 2 bits are fun but could be layed out better.
I think the new table is to close to the berme after it
and one of the lush new bermes exit is to small so you have to slow down.0
