Hello,

I'm looking to replace my rear wheel. It's currently got a nexus 8 hub, I would like to build a new new which is a single speed.

Are there any special considerations to take on board or can i just get a rear track wheel and but a single speed cog onto?

I've asked my LBS but they've not been back to me in over a week, so much for local bike shop help.

Cheers,

Smellyone

measure the OLD of the hub.

it is not likely to be track hub width. could be 135 or 130mm

then get a suitable wheel built/bought.

  • hey thanks for the reply.

what do you mean exactly by "measure the OLD of the hub" do you mean the width of the hub axle where the frame attaches?

    Cheers

MTB singlespeed hubs use 135mm (eg DMR, Halo). You can 29er singlespeed wheels (with a wide 700c rim) but its probably cheaper to have a wheel built up.

    Over Locknut Dimension
    hub "width"
the distance between the drop outs.
