Nice rolling hills but why just focus on one direction in their naming?

bunter, wiki to the rescue
The phrase Pendle Hill is unusual in that it combines the word for hill from three different languages (compare Bredon Hill). In the thirteenth century the hill was mentioned as Pennul or Penhul; apparently from Cumbric pen and Old English hyll, both meaning "hill". The modern English hill was appended later, after the original meaning of Pendle had become opaque."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

No because the body of water is just called Windermere not Lake Windermere.
The only "lake" in the lake district is Bassenthwiate Lake, all the rest are "mere", "water", "tarn" or reservoir.0
