Bike Grease - For Carbon??

Hi all,
I've been looking at purchasing some general purpose bike grease to use on threads, pedals, seatpost etc etc on the bike. I've read, however, that standard bike grease such as Weldtite TF2 cycle grease with teflon ( http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=5954 ) should not be used on carbon fibre parts, such as the seat post. Is there any sound reasoning behind this? and if it is the case, what product is reccomended? I don't really want to spend a lot of cash on a tube of specialist grease, just for the seatpost....
cheers

Grease causes the carbon fibre post to swell I think - you can get small tubes of carbon paste for this (or just put the post in with a bit of hairspray)Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Not supposed to grease your carbon seat post with anything0

+1 Dont put ANYTHING on it, mines in there dry and it fine.0

No, dont use grease. Basically the carbon surface is so smooth that it will not need anything to assist it sliding in and out of the seat tube. Quite the opposite, they are so smooth that people can be tempted to over torque the seat post clamp and damage the carbon as they just cant get enough grip on the post in the first place.
If that is an issue then you need to use carbon paste, the one I use is called Fibre Grip. The paste adds a rough layer to the carbon surface enabling the seat tube to grip the post without the clamp being overtightened.0 -
Ok thanks guys. So the weldtite stuff I posted a link for will be ideal for everything else??0

Yep, you can use it on anything else (stem), but Id definitely keep the seat-post try.0

i do use the carbon assembly compount. it has a grease-like feel to it, but with little particles to increase friction (don't whatever you do mistake it for grease and put it in your hubs!!)
it reduces the torque required to hold components in place - whether it does anything else, im not sure. It was a few quid for tube but will last me forever!0
