Sheared preload dial

Hi there,
I have a rockhopper with the following fork:
2008 •RockShox Tora 302 SL fork, 100mm travel, 32mm Cr-Mo stanchions and alloy steerer, Mag lowerand lockout.

My preload dial on the top of the left tube was refusing to move in any direction. I gave it some ,ahem, encouragement and I'm pretty sure that I sheared off the shaft that connects the dial to the internal gubbins
The dial and a bit of shaft now lifts completely free . . .
Could anyone tell me what this means in the real world?
Will the integrity of the forks be comprimised?
Will shite get in and ruin the internals?
Is it an easy (and Cheap) fix
or is a new fork on the cards?

Cheers,

it is fixable. how why and what depends on what you have actually broken.

if you dont want to spend any money and the preload is OK just use it it will be fine.

otherwise a new top cap assy is needed.

    Thanks for the quick reply,
I may make a trip to my LBS to quote me for the repair.
I think that they had better do any work needed, rather than me . . .
