Just charging round France on a bicycle or is there a strategy?
I've been following the TDF on ITV4 and following the threads on here and can't get my head round what he's doing or what exactly he's trying to achieve.
Any thoughts?

Primarily it looks like he is enjoying himself. Secondly it looks like he is trying to work out what he can achieve in the tour next year- yellow/green. In the mean time he is just trying to do as well as he can in both classifications0

Gilbert is being very clever in fathoming out that if Mark Cavendish is abducted by space aliens before the Champs Elysees, then he'll get his talented paws on the green jersey.
And he's having an absolute ball riding the Tour.0 -
Realising he won't get many points in a bunch gallop so trying to grab them in the way he does best. Thought he might succeed for a moment.0

he tried the same thing the other day and greipel won. maybe he's doing it thinking that if it doesn't come off it will disrupt htc and help greipel"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0

He is showing his jersey as best he can, winning a bit of money, entertaining his followers and on the way building a role as one of the patrons of the peleton. He is also doing a bit of inside commentary off course for television and generally becoming one of the people to be listened to. He is a rider with a future, probably all the more when he retires from racing.0
