To fly the (red) flag or not on a Lejog??

I'm attempting lejog from 20th August over 10 days on my own and unsupported.
I'm avoiding most of the A30 but feel the busy A82 is inevitable.

My question is: Should I buy one of the red flags often flown above recumbents, or child's trailers?

I guess anything that gets you noticed has got to be a help - but I thought the theofy behind the flags was to make low-evel cyclists more obvious - I don't know if that holds true for cyclists who are at normal eye level. A high-viz gilet might be more effective.

I did LEJOG in June and agree that A30/A303 is to be avoided at all costs. Original plan had me cycling A303 after Honiton but when we saw it on the drive south the wife vetoed it and found a brilliant alternative along the Luppitt Common ridge north of Honiton and thence down Staple Hill. Beautiful ride but a vicious hill to get up on to the ridge!

A82 along Loch Lomond is not great to cycle, but there is a cycle track up to Tarbet. From there up to Crianlarich it is narrow, twisty and busy although the road opens out after around the northern tip of the Loch. I didn't go this way as I went via Aberfoyle, Callander, Killin, Pitlochry, and Inverness.

If you want to discuss routes any further then let me know. I have gpx files of my entire trip. I did 1050 miles in 14.1/4 days.

Flags are waaaay down the list below a flourescent gilet/jacket.

Flapping flags provide lots of wind resistance, I'd avoid them.
