Single speed mud bike!

I've got an old ridgid alloy frame sitting in the shed and am toying with the idea of building a really basic extreme mud bike for fun.
So far I've come up with:
Take gearing off and run as single speed (I love that style of riding as it's superb training for strength, technique and the art of spinning) 1:2 ratio? Plus less to get crudded and less clutter on handlebars.
1.8 super spikey rear tyre
2.3 low pressure 'floaty' front (see what I'm doing here?)
Low saddle. Mudguards.
Flats for easy leaping on and off.
Ideas?

what are you asking?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Tyre choices. Good ideas for front and rear? Makes?
SS ratio about right?
Anything you'd add or remove?0 -

Did almost exactly this beginning of last winter. Mix of lying around parts and some cheap stuff. Had fantastic fun on it in the snow. I did stick with spds though. Nothing like the satisfaction at the end of the winter of being able to do a full length (50miles ish) ride on it when I'd found 20 hard going at the start. I think I may have killed the rear hub though, it sounds very unhappy at the moRock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0
