6 bolt rotor adaptor help

Hi,

I have just bought a set of wheels from Merlin with splined hubs that come with 6 bolt adaptors, or at least they should. One of the metal plates that goes on top of the rotor, before you bolt it to the adaptor was missing. See pic in link, it's the one in the middle. I rang Merlin to ask for another, but they tell me they are discontinued and cannot supply one. They also tell me I don't need one. I tried to explain that you need it, because without it, it would appear just fitting the center screw is useless, as it barely touches the end of the rotor. I know that the adaptor can be tightened in place with a grub screw, but is this really enough?

Who is right, them or me?

Thanks,

I have what's in the link, minus the plate in the middle.

Pretty curious design of adapter there.
Is the precisely the same adapter as you have? If not, we need pics.

    Yes, it's exactly the same.

The adaptor is tightened onto the spline hub via a grub screw and you screw the locking ring on after. Without the plate in the middle, the head of the locking screw only just touches the edges of the inside of the rotor. If you tighten it too much, I'm sure it would pull through.

Well they are obviously available, if the seller on Ebay has them.
I would insist on all parts, or ask Merlin for a refund to buy an adapter with all the parts.

i would just get a pair of adaptors from superstar, the adaptor you linked to may work fine, just looks weird
  • They look like the same Ashima adapters I got from Merlin for my DT x1800 wheelset. Took a bit to figure them out as the packaging had instructions on the back for IS to PM adapters...
You need the bit, they should supply it.
What brakes are you running? You can get genuine Shimano Deore spec splined discs and locknuts for £8-£10 from CRC or On One at the moment, but Merlin should sort this out, it;s unusual for them to ignore a problem....
You need the shim to lock the adapter to the hub with the lockring(once the disc is bolted to the adapter), in conjunction with the allen bolt to tighten the main part of the adapter on to the splined part.
    Hassle them politely!!!! 8)

They are the Ashima ones, but the ones on ebay look to be the same.

I have Hayes stroker trail brakes, will the shimano rotors work?

    Thanks...

Just found the shimano rotors from On One for £4.99

Will they be OK to use with my Hayes Stroker trials?
