I do not ever remember Raleigh Special Products doing titanium frames. Raleigh stickers are easy to get hold of, and a Raleigh without the Heron's Head is unthinkable.
  • Well, I only know what I've learned from the aforementioned retrobike forum link, I have read some articles on the history of the company, they certainly made titanium M-Trax mountain bikes.

I agree, without the Heron, this probably isn't a Raleigh. I will show my boss tomorrow and see what he thinks of it. He is a raleigh specialist! :)
    Nice bike none the less!

    It is a Raleigh

Seen a few of them, and there have been a few threads on these frames.

I had one in the summer of 2009 as a commuter. It's 100% a Raleigh, I have an old CW mag with a write up in it.

Mine was larger than this one, with a really whippy but comfortable 100% carbon Mizuno fork. It's not light, mine was around 1690 grams or so but the fork is light. It rides nicely, but isn't overly stiff. Handling is stable, the chainstays are not short, they're over 410mm. The flat top tube is very comfortable to sit on when using the bike as a leaning post. I'll dig up a pic if I can find one.

Not the most remarkable frame in 2011 but in 97 or 98 or whenever they were built they were pro quality for sure. Enjoy it!

Okay, more than very probably a Raleigh then.

Maybe it is commercially pure titanium, ala the CP2 titanium tubing from Reynolds. These were non-butted CP2 tubesets, and would explain the whippy back end.

Maybe not. I am not sure if Raleigh ever done any welding in the UK.

twitchered - one thing to point out, your derailleur cables look a bit kinked where the housing stops at the HT. This frame is a perfect candidate for cross-your-heart cable routing - cross the housing in front of the HT then cross the bare cables under the DT.

  • Thanks for all the feedback guys, much appreciated. :D
