Hi all,
I'm looking at getting myself a track pump for my road bike. A fair few people recommend the Topeak Joe Blow, and after having a look around I've noticed that there are a few to choose from.
Which is the most suitable for a road bike:
The Joe Blow Sport II Track Pump: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-joe-blow ... rack-pump/
or
The Joe Blow Max II Track Pump: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-joe-blow ... rack-pump/
I was told when i bought my bike to run the tyres at 100-120 psi. Should i stick to the lower value (100) or the higher 120 psi pressure??
Cheers
Rob

I have the first one on your list - the yellow pump. Two years and always works. Nothing has broken on it yet. Use it every week.
If your light 100 psi will be fine, heavy means a little more pressure is better. However it depends on the tyre as well as some are very uncomfortable at high rock hard pressures. E.g Used to ride Continental Ultra Sport becasue they came with the bike. Found them too hard at 100psi. Changed to Swalbe Blizzard Sport and they ride more comfortable at the same pressure due to softer tyre wall. I don't feel it compromises very much in terms of speed with differing pressures.0 -

+1 for the Joe Blow Sport, had mine for 3 yrs , used several times a week in that time and never had a problem , everybody,s got their own opinions on tyre pressures, me i use 90 psi rear, 80 psi front on Conti GP4000S.0

+2 for the Joe Blow Sport II
I'm on 25mm Conti 4 seasons and run them at 90 rear / 80 front.
Somewhere on the web you'll find a graph telling you what pressure to use depending on tyre size vs weight of bike plus rider.0 -
ahh a chart relating to weight/pressure would be great!!
my tyres are kenda kntendor 700x26c i believe - thats what came on the bike. I'm 87kg so maybe running about 100-110 would be ideal??0 -
+1 for the Sport (yellow one)
Had mine about 2 years and use it all the time for all the families bikes, footballs, so different valves types etc and never had any problems.
On my road bike I normally run about 100psi, however I think anything between 90 - 120 psi is good.0 -

Michelin graph
Can't find the one I'm thinking of
Continental list a reccommended and a max pressure for every tyre on their website. No mention of bike / rider weight.0 -

Had mine for a year, was cr@p as it never seemed to seal around the valve properly. Ended up using a £5 Lidl one instead as it actually inflates the tyres instead of hissing like a wounded snakeFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0

They're crap, mine squeals like a pig when inflating tyres now. Even after greasing it.
Giant Control Tower is a good pump. Or get a compressor. £90 well spent, especially if you use tubeless0 -
What about this Blackburn:

I have an Air Tower 4, and that has done a sterling job.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
Scott CR1 SL 12
Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
Scott Foil 180 -
Neither. Buy a Leyzine, probably the steel one as its the cheapest and therefore best value.0

Is a tack pump anything like a nail gun?0

Hunt around the various sites when they have deals on ..
I picked up a Joe Blow Turbo for the price of those lower down the range.....just right place - right time and keeping an eye out for a deal.0 -
+1 for the Sport (yellow one!)
I wouldn't buy it from Wiggle though, its a lot cheaper elsewhere!!0 -
Another for the yellow. Evans use them on their Ride It events and Spa Cycles seem to sell nothing else.Faster than a tent.......0
