CB Bikes - ITV 4 Coverage
When you consider that every commercial break is flanked with a Chris Boardman advert, why is he riding a non-decalled Taiwanese job every time he does recce. thing ?
Is there a commercial/rights issue ?

Think its a prototype for the aero models he's just released0

He's obviously riding a Boardman. He is being paid by ITV to commentate and it would be taking the p*ss if he were allowed to advertise his own brand as well so he's using a stripped frame.0

But he (well Halfords) is also paying for back to back advertising, surely he can ride his own branded frame without taking the p*ss, no ?0 -
His tweets confirm its the new aero 9.8 he has had to cover the decals for legal reasons. Its an off the shelf bike at £4,999Condor World Series 2012

Thank you. Thought it was more than taking the p*ss.0 -
THREAD HIJACK
the ads are cringe worthy BUT
The ITV 4 guys of Imlach Chris Ned and Matt are really settling into the role and enjoying it....
they are seasoned and confident. they are starting to reach out to an more informed cycling fanbase... they are having fun with the format. and CB vs imlach analysis is good...
the podcast is what you wish real peloton was like all year round.. a bunch of guys really enjoying themselves and the sport
nicely pitched"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

Been eurosporting but past two stages have given ITV a go. Partly coz my poxy skybox keeps failing to record the Eurosport Live - so ended up going for the Ned Show at 1900hrs.
Also partly cause just bought Neds book for my forthcoming holiday.
Have to say - he's very likeable. Missus has been away for couple days but if she knew there was an alternative to S Kelly, then I wouldn't even have Eurosport as an option!!
When Ned and Chris did their little 'Domestique' montage - it was genuinely funny television. ITV4 for me from now on. Sans adverts methinks...0 -
Not sure sure about Phil though. Maybe he'll be a grower.0

There are two different bikes on the pic, a road and a TT. Is the TT for sale?0 -
Product placement laws don't allow it.0

Must admit I'm loving the ned and Chris pieces. Very entertaining.0

I've always liked the concept of the ITV programme but the execution in previous years was often a bit wooden and awkward. It has been gradually been getting better and this year I think it has been excellent.
Ned was a real boost to the team when he started a few years back knowing nothing about the sport but being a great presenter. Now, he is still a great presenter but with a clear love of the sport and great rapport with the riders.
Great TV in my book.
The commentary team aren't universally liked but I don't mind them, I'm busy watching the race and a lot of the commentary on all channels is just filler in what are very long days.
FF, I don't think you can read anything into CB's comment. It could be rude, humorous, an in joke, or even his own arse. You're just looking to criticise. Intentionally misinterpreting the written word is very easy to do.0 -

Perhaps the person (not Ned) doesn't want to be photographed and named by Boardman, yes he works in TV, but if he's behind the camera he might not want to be known.0 -
Boardman ads may be sandwiching the coverage, but may not be allowed as part of the coverage because they are not official sponsers. The sponsors will have paid a lot of money to ensure exclusivity. This is after all a major sporting event for some countries.
Still, Mr B's clever hiding of the logos/decals worked, eh?Ecrasez l’infame0 -

It's a joke about the product placement and having to cover up the name 'Boardman'. Hint: Boardman's not actually the one taking the photo...."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

I watched Chris break the hour record at the Manchester velodrome many years ago and later on saw him celebrating with his family and friends in a private box. I recognised Magnus Backsteadt going in and asked him to get Chris to sign my ticket for me. "Come on in and ask him yourself" was the reply and Chris was happy for me, a complete stranger to join his little party. Seems like a nice guy to me
My friend spotted him at the end of a race once, called him over and Chris happily leant over the barriers and signed the top tube of his bike for him.
I seem to reacll that he lent Grame Obree an aero helemt once, when they were competing against each other.~~~~~~Sustrans - Join the Movement~~~~~~0 -
They don't seem to be too shy about having that ZIPP wheel logo about an inch from the camera in the 'studio' shot!
I don't mind the product placement btw, just seems inconsistent. I am a big fan of the ITV4 team (even if Phil & Paul say exactly the same thing every day). Ned's book is good too.0 -

I think he probably just doesn't know who it is0 -
I am pretty sure that the nameless technician is CB. Its tongue-in-cheek.Top Ten finisher - PTP Tour of Britain 20160
