Changing rear cassette
I'm about to get a new bike under warranty replacement after I cracked the frame on my old one.
The new one comes with a normal 53/39 crankset and a 12-25 rear cassette, my old bike had a compact crankset and a 12-25 rear cassette.
Now with the new gearing I'm going to be lacking the lower gears I used on climbs, taking into account I don't want to be swapping the standard Ultegra 6700 rear mech for a longer one, is it possible to fit either a 12-27 105 5600/5700 or a 11-28 Ultegra 6700 to the bike?
Also would I need a new chain or would the one on the bike be fine, it's all new gear by the way.

If you're lucky, your current chain might have been on the long side, but you won't know until you install a larger cassette and try running big chainring/big sprocket (which you'd only do for testing chain length, and not in actual use).
You also need to check your rear derailleaur as medium or long cage versions exist for larger cassettes and sometimes a short cage won't do. If you're lucky, this limit may be marked on your current rear derailleur.
I've swapped between 12-23, 12-25 and 12-27 on the same racing bike without any issues and didn't need to change anything (all Dura-Ace standard road groupset).0 -
Thanks for the info, I'll check when I get the bike0
