Am heading up to lee and cragg quarry very soon, but as I have no car I will have to rely on the train from Manchester (never a good thing).
I know what trains to get and have a rough idea how to get from the station to the quarry, I was just wondering if anyone out there could give me either some direstions or a road name or junction to put into the phones GPS to get me there.
Thankyou in advamce for any help.

I assume you're going to get off at Rochdale, that'd be the easiest.

Come out of the train station into a god allmighty mess of roadworks. and head straight foward past a health centre on your left and a primary school with a church also on your left.

Keep going and turn right onto Drake street.

Go down to the bottom and turn left across the town centre at the mini round-a-bout.

Go through the big round-a-bout with the town hall on your left.

Go through the next set of lights, asda on your left, keep going and through the next set of lights.

Keep going until you gat to a crossroads, with traffic lights. Go straight through onto mellor street.

Keep going until you get to another mini roundabout, straight through over spotland bridge. and another r-a-bout on 100 yards. Go straight over and strat going up Rooley Moor Road.

Keep climbing, past a bikebitz motorbike shop on your right and the road levels out.

Keep going until a right hand bend where there is a gym called "Fitness For Life"

Follow the road round and that goes down a slight dip then a long steady climb. That takes you onto the old rooley moor road and keeps going up... and up... and up... and, wait for it... up.

Basicaly it changes from tarmac, to cobbles to rough track. If you're heading towards the wind turbines you're in the right direction.

Cragg Quarry is at the top of that. You'll see the track lead off to your right down to lee quarry but its quite easy to miss. Look for a path made of small limestone chippings with the odd take off rock on the left hand side.

To get to Rochdale from lee quarry, finish the red route, ride down the road to the business park and turn right onto the main road, turn right again onto Newline. Ride all the way to the top, past a factory called Lancashire Sock.

Turn right on to market street and follow that road downhill for about 5 miles, that'll take you right back to rochdale town centre.
    Advocate of disc brakes.
