Just wondering who else on here is planning to take part in the New Forest 100 Sportive. This will be my 2nd Sportive after a forced mechanical retirement 25 miles in on the Mega Meon so really looking forward to it. Going to be riding (well to start with at least) with 2 or 3 friends on this one who are in a lot better shape than me but looking forward to the challenge nonetheless.

I might do, i've done it a couple of times, if the weathers good it's a nice day out in the forest.
Awwww look at the poniesRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -

Can I ask what kind "forced mechanical retirement" happened. I've done 60-70 sportives and only had one puncture (5 miles from the end of an Exmoor Beast) to deal with.
Guess I have been very lucky and I use Schwalbe Durano Plus tyres. My only puncture happened on a Schwalbe Stelvio which made me change to the Durano's. They are heavy but who wants to be changing tubes really. I always feel for the guy you pass after 5 miles fixing a tyre on a wet and windy day.0 -

Not sure if you're in a club or not , but the i-team are heavily into sportives and have a regular sat morning club run from rowlands castle with between 30 -40 turning up.
might be worth checking out their website and help you along your sportive way(they're a real friendly bunch with a lively forum). :P

Thanks Thomas. vs: My bike wheel went. I was on my old 3-year-old Halfords MTB (dont ask) and it just gave up the ghost. The mechanic came out to take a look but quickly saw it was not ridable. Hence why I'm in the process of buying a proper bike0

My bike wheel went.
Fair enough.
On the Dartmoor Classic I met a guy who's rear derailleur cable snapped after 10 miles and he was stuck on the 12 sprocket!
I met him on the arduous climb(s) to Princetown where he was hoping he would get a replacement cable at the feed stop. Not sure if he finished but that, after 10 miles, would have had me turn back and just think it was one of those days.0 -
Bad times. What I meant to write was "my back wheel went" lol... Obvioulsy my bike wheel went, wasn't going to be a car wheel0

The New Forest Rattler is on 21st August, think the longest route is 78miles.
Might be good practice.

Oooh, that Rattler looks quite good, might have to do my first sportive, I keep meaning to get myself out in the New Forest as it's only down the road from me. Be interesting to know if anyone else is doing this and possibly arrange a meet up.Road - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12777154&p=16943702#p16943702

Rattler coincides with Blenheim Palace (I think)
But I'll be doing the Wiggle event in October - the Super Series is really well organised, although it's a shame that a "gold" medal time only warrants the same old cheapy chromed medal that everyone else gets!!
Anyone doing the Wiggle IoW this weekend? That also starts at Brockenhurst college.0 -
On the subject of the Isle of Wight Sportive, I left it too late and there were no tickets left..... so if anyone has an unwanted ticket they want to sell me please PM me!0
