Hey everyone, I've been leisure cycling for a few years now on mainly mountain bikes from Halfords but have just ordered my first road bike, a Claud Butler Criterium 2011. I know you can get decent second hand ones on ebay but just don't trust it so wanted something new and affordable.

3 of my friends have also bought road bikes and although we live in different cities (2 in Reading, 1 in Milton Keynes and me in Portsmouth) we are planning to take part in the events run by Wiggle thorugh the UK Cycling Events website. My first step however is to get myself used to a road bike (does anyone have any experience with the one I've bought?) and get some sort of fitness, as I am far from that currently!

Mike

Nice, thanks. The shop I bought it from didn't even have it in stock (which I found out after paying) so am now in the process of buying it through Damian Harris cycles (they are phoning me tomorrow to let me know if they have the 59cm frame in stock)... Being 6'3" makes it hard finding bikes big enough haha!

I attempted the Mega Meon Sportive on my old mountain bike (pretty sure I was the only person there on an MTB) which broke on the course and forced me to retire at 25 miles (was really struggling anyway by that point) so I'm really keen to get a proper bike and get riding ASAP (Hopefully be ready for the New Forest sportive on 2nd October)

Hi Mikey from another South Coaster.
The only thing to do is get out and ride! Don't worry about going too far or fast, just get out and enjoy it. Before you know it you'll soon be racking up the miles.
See you out on the road - I'll be looking for the CB!

Welcome to the world of numbers, numbers, numbers. You should enjoy it though. I made the switch from 160mm FS MTBs over, and now am almost thinking I may not even want a MTB again, but rather a TT bike, my road bike, and probably some randomly pootling around bike.
