another small step, but a huge goal for me. in just five weeks of cycling i've gone from struggling to do two miles (one each way lol) to my parents to just completing thirty one miles in just under two hours. as i've said before, my goal is fifty miles, but i'm sure i'll get there soon enough.

i'm so glad i've taken on all the advice i've been given so far and people were right, it really is addictive!!

  • Nice one !!

    Keep it up.

I got back into cycling 2 years ago after a mahoosive break during which time I used my MTB very rarley for quick trips to the shops.

2 years ago I got back into cycling with my friend. Our first rides out were sedate 9 mile efforts with the first break coming in at just over 2 miles. Since then I have steadily increased and now do an average of a 150 miles a week comprising 4 commutes totalling 28 miles each and the rest being for fun.

You will reach 50 miles before you know it and will have a huge amount of fun getting there.

I was similar to you not so long ago, you'll find that once you're used to doing 30+ it gets easier. You'll need to keep an eye on nutrition and fluid intake more as you go further; I found keeping a ride log and doing 5 miles more per week really useful.

    Good luck!

It's just a hill. Get over it.

    Good idea.

    I use this one :-

I also use an app on my phone called endomondo. www.endomondo.com.

    Both are fun to use.

Once you get over the steep 20-30 mile fitness gradient it does get easier.
Build up gradually and have fun

Well done, that's a great effort. I've peaked at 23 miles after two weeks, but tweaked my hamstring yesterday, so having to take a few days off the bike, GUTTED!! My aim was 30 next weekend, pushing up to 50 by the end of the month, but I've got a bad feeling this hamstring is going to hold me back a touch.
