Heat shrink cable - size?

I've heard a few peeps on here mention that they use heat shrink cable instread of cable ends.

What's the best size to buy for brake and gear cables? 1.5mm, 2.5mm?

    I use stuff that's about 2mm diameter un-shrunk, two layers 'cos it doesn't quite grip if it's just one. It's still easy to pull off the cable with a thumbnail, but I find that a good thing.

    Therefore about 1.5mm diameter un-shrunk would probably be a good choice.
