Hi Folks,

Advice needed please?, ex-roadie here so be gentle!!!!!.lol.

OK so plan is to go "double and bash" with chain guide?.
My Marin is currently is fitted with a Stylo tripple chainset and I want to know can I remove my outer chain ring and fit a bash ring, then remove my middle ring and change to a 36T and then fit a chain guide?.
I then have to shorten chain????, but by how much????.

Would it be better to just get a double and bash??, like a SLX???.

Any advice would be great please.

Yes yes and the rule is the same. around Big and Big cogs without the rear mech. BUT if there is a bottom roller you need that inplace.

Are you planning on using a BB mount chain device? It won't work if you've got a 73mm BB shell, and a GXP BB.

Just thought I should warn you after the trouble I had: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums/vi ... t=12753713

I did the same thing a few months back, and purchased a RaceFace Atlas AM double chainring/bashring kit to replace the triple rings (I really recommend this if you can find one).

The chainstay clearance is a bit tighter with the 36T middle, but just about OK - but check this on your bike. If you've got plenty of space now with the 32T middle, you'll be OK.

I wouldn't worry about chain guides - I've found with the bashring in place, the chain never comes off any more.
