Watched TDF today, plenty of guys with Fizik assbusters

TDF was great today when the formula one was over ( magic race btw ) I switched over to TDF and wife and kids were less than amused. Lots of those guys were cycling merrily away on fizik assbusters like the arione i kept for 2 rides before my butt gave up the ghost. I wonder are those TDF pros using what equates to mattresses for chamois linings or does their rear just simply fit ? With a pressure relieving channel, the arione would have been the best saddle ever for me.
whilst those pros were smiling away on theirs, i was thinking oh my poor bum and soft bits area with every rotation of the pedals

dude if you experienced the bum chaffing, nut rubbing, perineum sanding that the arione caused me, i swear, you would forgive me for my display of weakness
shock horror - "saddle might not suit some riders - may suit others"
Clearly it suits those who are using it.0 -

You have children? Fuckin hell.0 -
Why are you giving the guy grief in a beginners section? He asked a normal questions others could benefit from, obviously its not mtfu, you need a saddle that fits, people normally try a few before settling on one that fits and feels right. Some of you need to grow up.0

Out of interest Ezy Rider what saddle do you ride now. I suppose it's horses for courses with saddles with us all being different.
Unless we all try every saddle out there we may not ever find the one were best suited too. That would be an expensive experiment.0 -
my ritchey pro biomax saddle which i ordered last sunday from the less than helpful SJS cycles still hasnt arrived  , so in order to go out yesterday I had to buy a 20 quid cheapie, it was a selle italia q-bik type which was ok , but the 140mm saddle width was far too big for my wee bum. im sure there would be riders who would get along with it just fine though, I did 46.3 miles on it in 2 hrs 34 mins which works out an average of 18.03 mph. im still waiting on the ritchey and my patience is wearing out fast.0

I had a Fizik Pave, beautifully made and looked superb. After 20+ miles it hurt like hell. Replaced it with a Charge Knife and haven't looked back.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

Hope your saddle arrives soon, I'd be interested to know what the Ritcheys are like.
Saddles are strange, I suppose some need breaking in, as you say the correct size and positioning are also important.
I've got a Van Nicholas [velo made] saddle on one bike which is great and another [ of the same saddle] on another bike and it doesn't seem so comfy.
Where's the logic, don't get me wrong it's still Ok but not the same.0 -
from a design perspective, the fiziks look totally the business. if only the weight wasnt perched squarely behind the plums but on the sit bones instead. i read somebody saying it was like being perched on top of a tennis ball, and they were right.0

im hoping its the biz, i have my dads scrawny backside and very narrow width seems to be right up my alley (pardon the pun  )
131mm width and no pressure behind the spuds to worry about, the try it and see method is what you gotta do .0 -

Tilting it forwards a bit may help.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

if the arione with a channel in it would be your perfect fit try the versus range in the fizik a bit heavier but if it works it's worth it you will go faster with the extra time on the bike you would be willing to put inLappiere X-Control 210

Why would fizik make a saddle deliberately uncomfortable ? Riders wont use them if they aren't comfortable.
Fwiw - I put an Arione on my bike and went out on a 100 miler as a first ride and it was great. Lovely saddle but clearly no saddle suits everyone.0 -
No saddle suits every rider, but nearly everyone I know rides an Arione. I won't ride anything else.
The secret is to keep the front section level so when looking at it from the side, the back kicks up.
I did try a Versus version (with the groove) and it was a different story and didn't suit at all!0 -
Like others have said trying a number of saddles could be on the expensive side, do you get free tries or sale or return with on line sellers or LBS's ?
Tbh I've stayed with the saddles that were on my bikes when I bought them, as being an innocent  I just 'manned it up' and got used to them.
The selle San Marco on the Giant is slightly more 'gelled' than the pave sport CX on the Bianchi but I get by with them both. I don't even know whether they are good saddles generally but they work for me.
I suppose that is the secret to individualism.0 -

Hey, some of you need to stand aside as we round on Mr Misshapen Ass, circle him, point our fingers and laugh at his mis-shapen ass.0 -
If you read the Fizik site you will see that the Arione is designed for the racing snake, light and flexible. I am the complete opposite of this, however find the Arione very comfortable (and have now sired 3 children) so it just goes to prove that the right saddle for someone is random chance, keep trying until you find one that works for you then stick to it.0

There's a reason why Ebay is filled with 'barely used' saddles.
Key: get sit bones measured first and eliminate any saddle that definitely won't work for you.
I'd recommend a Specialized Romin but you still have to get measured to get the right size!Coupla Road Bikes0 -

can i ask, in what way did you find the versus a different story, better , worse, sore .....etc ?0 -

They have this special piece of memory foam. You sit on it for 15 seconds and hey presto! You now know your saddle size. If they don't have one-go elsewhere.Coupla Road Bikes0 -
Anyone used a Charge Spoon?0
-
Yep Charge spoon is a great saddle. Comfy and about £20.
Then again - my other saddle is an Arione.
+1 on the Arione meaning to be for ultra flexible riders - I'm nothing like that and its fine.0 -

I found the way the saddle was built up on the sides to make the central groove meant that it put too much pressure on my sitbones. I'm sure other people would get on very well with it. I replaced it with another standard Arione and it felt like coming home! Saddles are such a personal choice that I think recommendations are meaningless.0 -
EZR
I am currently experiencing severe ass pain - and its not the wife or kids ! a couple of things
I beleive my sitbones are inflamed - and maybe even a condition called burstis - were fluid collects and is very tender and is even painful to sit on a chair. My point to EZR is that if your trying saddle after saddle - could you just have a sore ass anyway ? - try sitting on a hard floor - if you ass hurts pretty quickly - then a new saddle won't cure it
If you pass that test - ! - then maybe you need a whole bike fitting, where they measure your assbones, your hips, reach, bars, set your cleats accuratley - bad news is the price of these has just gone up toover £100 ! - I don't know where you live - but in the midlands adrian timmins and epic cycles have a good reputation for these fittings
any way when I get sorted I am organising the ingaural SORE ASS SPORTIVE - it only be about 3k ! let me know if your intersted.0
