Hi all.

Just installed some new gatorskin tyres and looking at the instructions (images only - no writing) it seems to indicate that I should install Rim Tape (I presume it is called this)?

I'm new to road bikes and this is confusing as I don't think i came across this on my MTB.
What exactly is this and do I need to replace on tyre change?

Kind regards,

most rims have holes all the way through where the spokes are mounted

the rim tape covers the holes, otherwise the inner tube would blow out

your wheels almost certainly have rim tape fitted already (or a rim strip, which performs the same function, but is removable)

it lasts for ages, you only need to replace if it's worn or damaged

you can see the red rim strip in this image...

    Many thanks, that makes sense.
I had a look over the existing tape and no marks were on it. I presume the instructions (from the diagram) was showing a damaged tape which was then recomended it should be replaced.

Only other question I have if you don't mind,,,i've always wondered what them little o'rings are for on the brake or gear cables. They are normally seen on the upper frame bar.

    Many thanks,

sounds like the little rubber bits sometimes used on bare cables to stop them damaging the paintwork

    like these...

    That's them!
I never realised it was just for the paintwork - thought it must of been something more technical!
