KMC X10L chain

I've just replaced my OEM shimano chain and cassette on my roubaix (running 105, cassette changed from a 105 12-27 to a 11-28 ultegra.....wish I'd stuck with 12-27 but thats a diff story) with the above chain.

Ever since I've had trouble making the drive chain run smoothly. The issue is when the chain is running slightly crossed the rear derailler is slightly catching the chain on the lower jockey wheel against the cage. It never did this before and on checking I think the KMC chain is slightly thicker hence the problem. Anyone else had this or similar issue before (OEM shimano chain looks the same thickness as the sram i.e. I think they are fractionally slimmer then the KMC?)

  • I'm running a KMC 10 on my Ultegra compact chainset (11-28 rear) and it's fine. I prefer it to the original Ultegra chain. Is your chain length correct ?

Did you measure your chain properly, or just cut it the same length as the last one?.
Maybe the extra tooth on the rear is proving just too much a stretch for the chain length.

I couldn't get the KMC link to work, one of the posts on the link would pull through the side of the chain link, I think it was supplied broken, so I just fitted the chain with regular pins, seems to run fine.

I've run x.10L's and SL's on Ultegra and they work much better than Shimano (even DA) IMHO

Just took some further minute tweaking and its all snickety, snickety now

Anyone else find it takes about a gazillion tweaks to get gears to shift perfectly!

Just seen this link in another post that might prove useful.

According to this there is no "black art" in setting up your gear indexing.
