Had my ribble for a few months now, When it came it had 3 x 10mm spacers below the stem, as i've got used to the ride position I now only want 1 spacer below the stem (but dont want the other 2 spacers above the stem) how do I go about removing the excess 20mm, just a hacksaw job? or alot more to it than that?

Is it something I could have a go at, or LBS?

Thanks

I tried this once several things learned!

Firstly unless you are very proficient with a hacksaw you will end up with a wonky rough finish to the top of the fork/stem.

    Measure REALLY carefully LOL

    Remove fork before cutting!!

Or get someone else to do it correctly LOL

If i do it again, i will go to a DIY store and buy a tube cutter. This is in my opinion the best way to cut a tube, and if you want to do the job youreself and you have enough spare tube to support the tool, do it this way.
Bike one Dawes Acoma (heavily modified)
Bike two (trek) Lemond Etape (dusty and not ridden much)
Bike Three Claude Butler chinook, (freebee from
    Freecycle, Being stripped and rebuilt
    (is 3 too many bikes)

I had the LBS cut down my recent build (carbon steerer)
But left enough steerer tube to keep some spacers on top until I know I'm happy!

Why not put the spacers on top for now.
Then ride the bike for long enough to ensure you are comfortable with it.
if you go too low, then it's a new fork to raise it!

Already have the 2 spacers above the stem, so i'm sure thats the height want to keep. Just looks untidy and I've got it into my head that I want to remove them

I thought it would be dead easy so removed the cap thinking 2 mins with the hacksaw and were done, not the case. the tread into which the cap screw is also an allen key fitting that comes out? but why? so I put it back together and came on here.

    Ok guys, went for it

Removed the stem, measured 20mm and marked with tape, cut with hacksaw but not perfectly straight, filed square to the tape mark and rebuilt, mint.
