Got some new conti gator skins and have just tried to seat them at low pressure (ie manipulate the tyre so that there is an even amount of rubber proud of the rim all the way round). Not only is this difficult to start with (ie wobbly when wheel is spun) but I have aslo noticed that the rear wheel has a prominent flat spot!
I must have hot something bloody hard or the wheel is rubbish! The rim is a mavic cxp22 and is the stock wheel you get on an allez elite (2011).
My questions are as follows:
1) is the wheel shot?
2) are gatorskins difficult to seat well (have you any tips)?
3) are mavic ksyrium equipes any good as I think I need new wheels?
4) does the fact that I weigh just over 100kg (when fighting fit and free of meningitis) have anything to do with it?
Best wishes,
Fred

Flat spot could be a badly built wheel, unless you've hit something hard. Get it checked out at your LBS. There's little need to seat a clincher tyre, they find their own position on the rim.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
