Good Afternoon,

I would like to take my girl friend to the lake district for bank holiday august. Im planning on staying for 3-4 days.

Im looking for some advice on location to visit and advice on places to go.

Myself and my GF are beginners in camping and trials but enjoy a challenge.

Im therefore looking for campsite in the lakes which is near beginner trails and single track, food and pubs, towns and extra bits to do while we are not sleeping or riding such as swimming or boat related, shopping...

Thanks any advice would be ideal...

Camping August bank holiday?Book now :D The last time I just turned up in Keswick,we couldn't get anywhere so I've never bothered August Bank hols since
Everywhere in the honey-pots(Keswick/Ambleside/Coniston will be rammed
There's the Altura trail at Whinlatter Forest(Keswick)
    http://www.forestry.gov.uk/alturatrail
or the North Face Trail in Grizedale forest nr Hawkshead
    http://www.forestry.gov.uk/thenorthfacetrail
and absolutely miles of 1st class natural stuff.
    This is a good site:

But you can't book and it will fill up by early afternoon on the Friday of the BH weekend

I'd suggest the Great Langdale campsite

    http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w- ... ngdale.htm

We were there over Easter and although it was full it wasn't crowded as they have an allocated pitch system. And thankfully they have family and non-family fields to it can be nice and peaceful. They also allow (insist on it really) booking in advance.

A truly Beautiful location, there are lot's of natural routes around there and not that far from Grizedale trail center, 3 pubs (1 2 mins walk the others about 5 mins walk).
It's about 5 miles from Ambleside so you've got boating on Windermere and shopping.

Or there's the camping and caravanning club site at Keswick
    CCC site
Bang on the Lake shore and 5 mins from Keswick, which has loads of pubs etc but does get extremely busy.

Plenty of sites with availability that week/end at the moment, just booked up the bank holiday week and emailed about 10 places which all bar 1 had space at this time.

Whinlatter and natural stuff here I come ^^

Have a look at the link in my sig for some nice trails in the Lakes.

I'm not going to be able to update it with any more routes for a couple of weeks due to injury so can't ride at the moment.
