BB30 -> HT2

Thinking about a BB adapter to be able to run HT2 crankset because the BB is utter crap. No sealing, a pita to change unless I get the tools and i'm servicing it almost every 2 rides.

But, will an adapter solve my problem?

looks to be the adapter I need, however it re-uses the BB30 bearings by the looks of things. But, will the sealing be better?

HT2 cranks seem to sit flush against the adapters so look as though they might reduce the chance of grit getting in. Or am I missing something?

    yes and no.

those still need the BB30 bearings.

there is a press and glue fit adaptor that allows HT2 cups to be fitted.

TBH just look at better bearings for the current set up.

cheaper than a new crankset BB and adaptor and fitting compound and headset press.

  • how about this then? looks to remove BB30 bearings completely?

Thing is, I don't think new bearings will help. The drive side is ok because its fairly flush with the BB. not really any way to get past it.

The non drive side is the issue though, the small metal cover that sits over the bearings and is help in place by the press is just rubbish.

The press can't be done up too tight or it presses to hard against the cover which in turn presses against the bearings. And it sits inside the BB shell instead of over it, so its very easy for muck and grit to get in there.

Its just such a difference to HT2 and its probably the only thing that is really annoying me about the bike.... the creaking sounds worse than a 10 year old isis setup with worn spindles!

    that is interesting.

yep and new cranks and no BB needed.

  • Something like this?
    http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/GSSHM773/sh ... (no-brakes)

Would get rid of the SRAM shifters/derailleur too.

Been looking at that KCNC adapter. A few reports of it not sitting quite right but not many people seem to have used it.

the other options are all reducers but I would ideally want to get rid of the BB30 bearings.
