Bottle cage / bottle

Evening all :-)

Been having a nosey around for a couple bottle cages and bottles and had a couple questions.

Firstly, are the majority all a universal fit for the allocated holes on the road bike frame? Additionally, do any of the cages actually come with a suitable bottle that fits snug, or is it then a game of finding a jostle that's gonna stay put etc?

Finally, if I want to mount a bottle cage on one tube and a bottle cage with pump on the other, is there a particular brand that sell matching cages with one having the pump connection??

Cheers

Rob

Yes. Unless it's for something really specialised, in which case it will says so, it will fit..

Usually universal as well, but there are some special shapes, and occasionally one bottle is too fat or too thin. Some cages come with a bottle, but unless it's a special shape, eg aero, then it's unusual.
Finally, if I want to mount a bottle cage on one tube and a bottle cage with pump on the other, is there a particular brand that sell matching cages with one having the pump connection??
The pump mount comes separately, often supplied with the pump. It fits underneath the bottle cage and is held down by the same bolts.
  • Thankyou for your help - that's answered a lot of the questions. With regards the bolts to hold down the bottle cage and or pump, do they come with the cage/pump or will they have to be purchased separately?

A bit variable - most come with bolts, but not always. Most bike frames come with bolts as well though, so you're more likely to have some spare. If you find yourself short of suitable bolts, the standard thread used is M5 (ie 5mm). Available from any B&Q etc for a few pence upwards, or ask the bike shop where you get the cage or bike from - they're bound to have accumulated a small pile of them.

If your bike has holes but no bolts or bottle cage, I suggest you stick a couple of bolts in the holes anyway - it will keep out water, muck, blood, small animals, etc ...

There is only one bottle cage that you should get and it comes with the correct bottle to fit it perfectly. DO NOT buy anything else:-

My Toppeak racerocket pump came supplied with slightly longer bolts, but the standard ones fit just fine.

    Nice pump btw

That Campag cage is obscenely expensive, no wonder they give you a £3.99 bottle free of charge with it. I really don't see how anyone can justify spending over £100 on a bottle cage. I spent £40 on a cage and would never admit it to anyone I know, especially the Mrs.
