Further to my previous 'Poor and miserable' thread, i have come accross a Giant SCR4 in good condition for £250, obviously i know Giant have a good reputation, but as far as i can tell this is minimal spec, is it worth the money?

Thanks

Gav

Too much for an old model at the bottom of the range, worth more like £150 :(

In that case then, whats better:- Both £299 Carrera Virtuoso or Carrera TDF? Any opinions appreciated!
  • Here are the specs to help out. Very similar as you can see. It shows the Virtuoso has 7005 alu frame but the TDF has more recent gearset. The TDF has 23c tyres rather than 25c. Much of the kit looks pretty much the same.

As I said on the other thread I would go for 15% discount - that should be achievable on either model. It might even come down to which colour you prefer

The TDF does seem better spec'd, Issue i have is the paintjob isn't really to my taste, and the TDF on got a 2 1/2 star review on bikeradar and the Virtuoso got 4 1/2.

And SUPERDOMESTIQUE i know you have a fetish for the TDF
  • Can't think why you'd say that lol! I think I must be one of the few that like the colour scheme tbh.

Think you have answered the question though - pop in and have a look at the Virtuoso as it will be good vfm.

You can check stock for your local store on the halfords website.

I would recommend a good look over the bike yourself even (especially!) if they build it for you, should you buy one.

I'm sorry to hear that!

Personally I'd have gone for the Virtuoso but that would be down to colour as I can't stand the TDF scheme. Each to their own. I still think the TDF is good value for money and I wish you lots of happy miles on it!

I knew you couldn't resist the call of the TDF :lol:

As there's not much in it spec wise, go for the one YOU like the best. Have you ridden either of them?

  • As above, which one you prefer tbh. Any difference in the deal?

Done. TDF Ltd bought and paid for. It runs a double but decided i didn't need a compact for ''hilly'' Leicestershire. Better componants on the TDF by a whisker...ill let you know how i get on with it.
  • Congrats and enjoy.

I bought a TdF about 8 weeks ago when they were £270. No better bike fir the money IMO and I did some real research. Had to be new and not a second-hand higher spec cos I din't know a real lot about bikes and wouldn't be able to spot a duffer, Also, being vertically challenger at 5ft5 frame size in the used market is an issue.

Like people are saying, this is only the beginning. After such a short time on a road bike purchased essentially for my commute has turned into a ridiculously addictive hobby (the goals you set yourself come quickly). Already chosen my next bike - an Allez, or maybe the Bianchi, but I really like the Pinarello...... Oh FFS what have I done? Better ring the bank mate.
