Thinking of investing in a decent saddle and am considering a Specialized Alias or Toupe. Seen the reviews and most are positive, but some say that it might not be great for a fat bloke!!

Anyone of a larger build thats had one offer any advice????? I'm 6-2, 16 stone, and riding up to 90 miles.

Just because you're big doesn't necessarily equate to a large saddle. Best to get your sit bones measured and then choose the right one from there. I'm 6'+ and find the spesh 143mm suits ne fine. No discomfort at all over 50+ mile runs. Tuope, romin both get very good write ups for comfort.

Thanks. I know about the sit bone width though., It was just a few reviews mentioned that they wouldn't neccessarily suit a heavier rider, or people that sit up more due to the cut out section??

I spend most of my time on the hoods, is this what people mean by sitting up?

You'd be fine with either saddle, the cut out doesn't make any difference to riding on the hoods or drops. I'd consider the specialized romin as well, i've had all three and the romin was the most comfortable. Take it your wearing padded shorts?

I'm fine on my Romin on the tops, drops and hoods, I don't see the BG saddles would be unsuitable for someone 'generously sized'

Ta for the advice. Got myself a Romin test saddle after getting measured. Fingers crossed it'll suit my rear!

The LBS who stock the Specialized gear have a pad you sit on that leaves an imprint of your arse. Then they measure the distance between the imprints of your sit bones. Specialized have varying widths to suit.

Having been measured, I now know the ssaddle that came on my bike is far to narrow for me. Looking forward to tomorrows ride!

I read a good tip about this, sit naked on tinfoil on a carpeted stair. Measure the distance between the two deepest marks.

I am sure unixnerd means the 2 deepest indents....please ignore the marks and definately do this at home when you have no guests. They really didn't like this at my local cinema
