Part missing on my bike??

Hi all. I am new here and to biking for that matter !! Its been a while.

I have bought a bike and I think something is missing from the crank area. Some sort of cap but I am not sure.

Here is a picture link . Would appriciate any one telling me if something is missing and if I can get anything to sort it!!

    Looks alright to me. Internal BB, axle, crank arm.

    I just gotthe impression there should be something over that metal ring and sealing the crank arm shaft. But maybe not then

    Kind of looks a little exposed.

    Modern X-type BBs are external to the frame, so there is no gap between the BB and the crank arm. You don't see any axle.
    Internal BBs should fit within the frame. This area tends to collect a lot of muck, but that's fine if your BB is sealed.
