how many chain links?

moving up from compact to standard. now know i need to lengthen chain. ordered new one but not sure how many links it is a 12-25 cassette. take a few off or leave it as it comes?

    The new chain will be too long as they are sized for every eventuality.

    You will need to size it up on your bike and take out the appropriate number of links.
    None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

    With chain on big-big but not through derallieur you want 2 spare links.

    You won't need to lengthen by too much (the odd link or so). rothers mentions a good way to work it out, this also works:

    Just need to measure your chainstay length.
