'Smartphone' help

I am new to smartphones and recently got my first one, a Sony Xperia Arc with Android.
I don't really know what I'm doing with it, just finding stuff out as I go.
Specifically, I'm having app trouble. I want to download a Twiter-type app thing that shows me twitter stuff. Either the official Twitter app or something like Tweetdeck.
Strange thing is I can't see either of these in the app market. I can find them on my laptop though. So i googled tweetdeck and official twitter app on me phone to go directly to the makers website to download directly, and they have a direct link - when I click this the phone just pops up with an error box saying 'requested not found'.
I looked at the spec requirerments and it says you need Android 2.1 or above, and my phone reckons I'm running 2.3.3. So why does it seem that many apps are invisible to me in the market, and when I try to download directly it just point blank refuses..?
Want to throw the bloody thing in the bin, any techy types shed some light for this confused idiot?

Are you searching for the app, or just scrolling around in the market? If you're only scrolling around, sometimes apps are in weird places you wouldn't expect them to be.
If you are searching for it and it is not showing anything, I have no idea what is happening. It may be worth re-installing the Market to see if that fixes it!0 -
I think I *might* have found the problem. When I look on the app store online, google (spookily) knows what phone I have despite me not remembering ever telling Google. It says I can't have Twitter app because of my phones 'content filter'.
I had a similar problem the other day in so much that when I tried to visit the Inner Ring (cycling blog!!) and Virgin blocked me telling me I need to verify my age. I'm thinking that the problem might be me and they are restricting 'adult' apps and sites on my phone.
So naturally despite the fact that I gave my ID and date of birth in order to sign a contract with Virgin to get the phone, they come to the only logical conclusion that I am a 12 year old school girl who is trying to access filthy adult sites like Inner Ring.
Currently trying to figure out how I can verify the fact that I am over 18..."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
Literally about to bin the phone...trying to log into Virgin mobile site.
Give email address and password. Not working. Reset password? Doesn't recognize the email address that I give to reset password, despite having emailed me my last bill (I bet they had no problems recognizing it then, the b@stards). Try to set up an account, assuming my email isn't recognized. Asks for phone number. Hey, recognizes the phone number! No need to register, just enter your password!
And repeat."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
Virgin are a shower of s**t, your best bet is to ring them, you'll be on hold for ages, and when you finally get to speak to someone they'll be next to useless but persevere and eventually you'll get some were. Alternatively send the phone back, cancel the contract and go with a network that know what there doing.0

The age related thing is a sim card setting you can have changed mine does it on Vodafone too but I can get at stuff that'd make Aggieboys eyes water on wifi.
Search the app store by the apps name for twitter on the go I like seesmic and plume far more than tweetdeck0 -
I had this with my HTC on Virgin, ring them on 789 ( it'll cost you 10p) and they will sort it for you no problems. just hope you get an operator that can understand what you say to them. :roll:0
