Ive just bought a 2005 rockhopper frame and when i tried to put my stx rc rear hub onto it i found that it didnt fit because it was to short the rear stays.I then looked on the specialized website to look for which hub came with the original bike which was a shimano fh-m475 hub.I measured my stx hub axle which is 146mm the same as the m475 axle so im confused on how i can fit a hub to my frame

By too short is that there is a gap, or is the hub to big? The gap between the stays should be 135mmA Flock of Birds

i meant the rear stays are to wide and the hub axle not long enough. Ive just measured the rear stays and the gap is 146mm0

yes your hub will not fit as the OLD is 126mm as it is an old 7 speed.
new wheel time."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the hub is an 8 speed but not sure on the OLD0

Ok so it is the 8spd version it has the correct O.L.D. of 135 so it should just be a straight fit.
Ok all should fit fine unless the frame is scrap."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Maybe it has been respaced? Need to measure the OLD.0

frame seems ok just a bit strange the gap at the rear stays is 146mm when standard mtb's is usually 135mm.0

If your gap is 146mm then your frame is totally trashed.0

Looks like the frames ready for the skip0

Yeah, sounds to me like someone has forced a 145 hub into it for a while :shock:A Flock of Birds
