Boredman?

I like Chris Boardman, but by the end of the tour the endless
adverts for Boardman bikes and the Boardman quotes could be quite a test of endurance.
"When my family had to lift me off the sofa, I knew I'd seen
one Halfords advert too many". Still, his race previews, commentary etc are good.

The programme was much cooler when on Channel 4, with the
Kraftwerk music, etc. and the animated bendy men. They used to make
more effort back then. But now it's more mainstream, that means there are
more cyclists, so I can certainly live with that.

You get a better quality of ad over on Eurosport.

" I used to wonder why there was a podium place for second and third." That made me cringe.

Can only watch 1/2 the show as the addies get on my wick. Far too many

To be fair to him yesterday when he was riding round on his bike it was completely de-stickered!

  • Lets be honest though, he's better than Phil & Paul, who somehow mistook Rigeberto Uran for EBH yesterday, one a pasty Norweigan the other a very over tanned Colombian, not Rocket Science!!!!!!

Always Sky+ it and skip Boarmans adverts, very annoying.

Its stupid, but Chris Boardman can't be seen riding a Boardman bike during the programme as that would be classed as product placement, which until recently was illegal.

Even dumber during the Tour of California when one of the teams were riding Boardman bikes.
I think a de-stickered Boardman would probably be worth more than one with normal livery.

Clearly you haven't ridden a Boardman bike.

The original C4 music wasn't by Kraftwerk, it was actually by Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks. Got it as a ringtone on my phone; occasionally getting approving looks when it does ring.

How could it be a product placement issue when there is an SRAM crank in the corner of the shot (presumably on a bike dangling from the ceiling) most of the time when Boardman is giving his expert analysis on ITV?

I think that might have been exactly what he was saying....?

In my head, coming out of every (numerous) ad break, I still expect to hear that music: to me, it *is* the TdF music!

You're right, I've never ridden a Boardman (other than a 30 second spin around my mate's garden), but I've only heard good things about them. They get a bad press because of where they are sold and because they scream "CYCLE TO WORK SCHEME".
Some people might be prepared to pay a little more for a bike without those associations.

The SRAM crank on show has no association to Chris Boardman, so that is allowed.

I'm guessing about the SRAM bit, but I know I'm right about the unbranded Boardman bike.

  • His droning monotone, pudgy potato face and tediously repetitive sound bites really get on my fcuking tits. (And my posts are usually pretty moderate).
  • Surely all the boardman ads are paying for the actual coverage of the tdf on itv4? IMHO a price worth paying

With you on that, problem with watching on Eurosport though is Carlton Kirby. Would rather listen to Duffers than either of those two, no alright then I wouldn't.

Even on a commercial channel like ITV?
