Has anyone ever serviced a Nexus 8 speed hub?

If so did you use the 'official' special oil that Shimano supply? or is there an alternative, as the proper stuff is £90 a litre  basically the service kit is the oil and a pot that you fill with said oil and you dip the hub for 90 seconds.... seems a bit steep to me... this is going to sound ridiculous but could you reuse the oil?

Would be interested to know too. I always thought to service the hub you would need to strip it down and apply relevant grease, not just dip the whole of the hub in the oil.0

Turns out one can send the hub off to madison (via your lbs) and they can do the service for about £20 iirc.Santa Cruz 5010C

So out of interest dipping the hub in this oil is not actually the same as servicing it i.e. the oil would get into the bits that need taking apart from greasing? or is this instead of...0

Pretty sure the dip is the servicing, but can't remember if anything else was done, was a while ago now.Santa Cruz 5010C
