New BB

Need a new BB for my Race Face Ride XC cranks for a 63mm BB shell. Is the Shimano Saint worth the extra over the SLX/XT one or should I just stick with that? Whats the difference apart from the colour, is the Saint stronger somehow? I know it has longer threads for chain guides but I don't see how that works since it's the same spacing anyway but if it does make a difference then I'll get it since I use a BB mounted Stinger.

As pretty as the Hope is, I'm not shelling out £60 for it.

slx/xt ones can take some abuse, had mine in nearly a year now and it's been through all kinds of riduculously adverse weather and done 100's of miles andis still spot on. Think like you have said the difference is in the threads.

I know they can take some abuse, thats what I currently have but it isn't quite a year old and it's creaking a lot. It also seems to come loose quite a lot (only started happening in the past month or so though) so maybe the extra threads on the Saint BB would stop this?

coming loose indicates some kind of issue either with the thread or tightness when fitting.
If the threads look fine on the BB cups then look at the frame ones also. either way it coming loose isn't a common factor withg these BB's afaik.

My deore one lasted 3 months. Dunno if I was unlucky but I plumped for one that cost a bit more as a result.

it doesn't matter what shimano you get as they're basically the same. hope are good as they can be taken apart and next time you just need to fit new bearings and hope make some very good bearings and seals

Gusset EXT24 is decent, about on a level with XT, for XT money- lasts longer if you give it a little TLC, less if you don't. And looks nice.

But if I was you I'd buy XT/SLX. Best balance of price and durability IMO. I got my last one from Rose, with their P&P it worked out slightly cheaper than the best UK price but I chucked some other stuff onto the order and saved a fair bit.

You could buy a Hope, or, you could buy about 8 Deores

Not true that, the deore one's way inferior to the XT one, lucky to get more than half as much use from them. OTOH they cost about half as much so it's a reasonable deal but it's not the same.

Looks like I'll just get another XT/SLX one and I might get some new bearings for my current one, will do for the 224 when the RaceFace BB wears out
