What tool to remove single speed freewheel - Shimano MX30?

Hey everyone, I would just like to double check before I put the tool on order - what specific type of freewheel remover tool do I need for my single speed Shimano MX30 freewheel? I didn't realise this but there are several slightly different types of four pin remover tools :)

I would measure it but it's quite difficult to get an exact measurement with the axel in the way.

Many thanks.

  • Just to give yo'll a little update I've been advice my an online store to go for a Park Tool FR6C BMX. Makes sense cause I think it is a BMX freewheel.
  • Did this work?
  • I can indeed confirm the Park Tool FR6 fits a Shimano MX30 freewheel : ) To undo it though I used a socket set piece with a big old breaker bar on it, an adjustable spanner just didn't hack it.

If you have a vice clamp the tool in the vice, plae the wheel on the tool and turn anti-clockwise. Less chance of the tool umping out and damaging the freewheel.

  • I'd agree to that being the preferred method, but you really need a nice solidly secured work bench vice. I don't even have any description of a vice, or a work bench :)
