Seeing as I wouldn't leave my road bike outside a shop on its own, I bought a 2nd hand mountain bike for pootling around town on. One side of the pedals are standard bike pedals, the other side has the mechanism to plug SPD cleats in to in case I ever decide to go off road again. They were pretty cheap, from Shimano and are probably the combo pedals that you meant in your original post :-)0
