Quick update. Did some fiddling, tightened the wheel a bit, felt fine but still a bit of play when I put it back, but turns out it's the swingarm bearings seem like they are on their way out, but also found loose linkage bolt, did it up, checked the others and apart from a little bit from the swingarm, play is all gone and the wheel is fine.
That link you found was really useful as I would never have thought of putting an allen key in the drive side to adjust it. I had just used my fingers and some vice grips before.

yeah its not that obvious eh ? even in the instructions you get with the wheels, there is no mention of it

happily my rear wheel is now silky smooth. Plenty of grease on the freehub has made it almost silent 8)

rather more annoyingly, i have busted two tubes getting on my new 2.4 Mountain King tyre, so will be at the bike shop at Cannock 1st thing tom

I've been meaning to grease mine, much prefer stealth mode to the 'look at me' effect.
What grease did you use - I normally just use a big pot of Halfords multi purpose grease for everything.
