Still not decided whether to take the FS or the HT or even which pedals (SPD or Flats!) ... should be a top day :D

They usually recommend flats to make sure you learn the skills properly. That said I actually find it quite difficult riding flats these days.

FS will be better if there's loads of riding although the rear suspension can make basic skills like manuals etc more diffiuclt to get sorted.

Either way enjoy, did my riding loads of good.

Just realised where you're riding, should get berm technique sorted as well if they use the blue section on the lower loop. If they take you over the rocky section through the trees, sorry that was my fault, I built the drop off at the top.....

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result

Take your most favourite bike. It doesn't matter FS or HT, but the bike you enjoy most. Enjoy your day, it will be awesome!

So, how was it? Do you feel it benefited you and improved your confidence?

    Do tell...

He crashed and is in hospital after making a mess of a 4' drop off.

Apparently he's OKish but concussion and battered and bruised.

I'm guessing the answer is "no, not really".

    .

He now knows not to try and superman the first 4 ft drop he comes to!
    and improved your confidence?

Not sure - but the morphine sure must be a help !!

Don't know the guy except for his posts here, just don't find someone ending up in hospital as funny.

Both Pieman, OCD, myself and several others have been internet buddies for several years now. Often passing banter, advice and other words of wisdom. OCD i'd class as a mate having bought him a £3500 motorbike not long ago (which he paid me for a couple of weeks later). Pieman i've not met but have 'known' for the best part of a decade.

I see nothing wrong with the comments and neither will the OP.

@Mr OCD - I feel your pain (literally having done the same - making a mess of a drop that is).

May not be funny at the time, but once you're sorted out everyone can have a laugh :D

So what's the deal if this happens on a skills course, in legal terms that is?

Not that I'm a believer in suing if you crash.

Most (if not all) skills courses have a disclaimer that you ride at your own risk

A fair summary Weeksy. As the guy that bought his "other" bike to fund that one and in almost constant contact with OCD despite being at the other end of the country I can say that he definitely doesn't have a problem with banter, and certainly not banter between people that carry over from TRC.

Cheers for all words guys... I'm a bit bruised and battered but will recover ok once they let me out of Hospital...

Currently looking a body armour ad on advice of doctors I need to protect my kidneys... Any recommendations? Obviously no rush... ;0)

As for the course I picked up a lot of new skills and enjoyed it immensely... Was doing fine till about 2.30pm when I landed wrong on a rock drop and lost my footing on landing... Mike (the guy teaching) said it was perfect until I landed then went wrong!

It's not gonna stop me riding but it will now give me pause for thought when attempting such things again... I'm only in my 30's but I'm finding I don't bounce as well anymore either!

    Hope you recover quickly mate,

Best thing to do is get back out on the steed asap once you get the all clear and hit it again once you've regained some confidence! (well imo obviously)

It's not rare to crash on skills course, it can happen. Obviously -healing vibes- to OP but that seemed 0.01% of extraordinary pro crashes with comprehensive outcome. I crashed on a skills course so did my riding buddie too, but we didn't end up in tatters though.

Not counting how many more crashes did I have after skills courses. Things happen when you ride on a limit, hell many enjoy that razor sharp edge!
