bike computer puzzle

I've got a Sigma 1106 (wireless) bike computer. It stopped working for no apparent reason the other day, so I replaced the battery, reset it and all seemed fine. The fixing to the bike is a push and twist arrangement which locks the computer in position and brings the two metal contacts into contact with the corresponding points on the bracket. When i twist it the final distance - i.e. click it into place - the screen goes blank, but returns to normal immediately the unit is removed.
I'm baffled, have any of you lot got any bright ideas?

    sounds like an electrical short somewhere in the unit. When the 2 connectors are connected and passing a current it's cutting out....

    Could have been an electrical interference causing the problem
