Fitting full mudguards

I've just taken delivery of some full mudguards for my Specialized crosstrail..
The back one will not be an issue, but the front forks mountings are on the back rather than the sides.
The mudguards have side mounting stays so unless anyone has any other ideas I will have to cut the stays down and attach some 90' brackets,it'll look a bit naff but it'll work..
Anybody else met and solved this issue?
Thanks... :D

Can you post a pic of the forks ?
Do you mean that there are bolt holes just behind the axle (for mudguards), but the front mudguards expect to fit to holes in the sides of the forks, about 16-17cm above the axle (usually for a front rack) ?

The allen key shows the fitting hole position and you can see where the guard fittings sit,cheers..

It looks like I'll have to shorten the stays(cut them) and use "p-clips" .

That is unusual but a good solution to allow you to use disc brakes I suppose. Do specialized do a small L bracket for this unusual fixing (I would call them to find out). Otherwise just try to get hold of a small L bracket in stainless steel as you were going to.

Done using rubber sleeved s/s p~clips,I had to cut 3"/75mm off of the stays.
I've been out for a 20 mile ride and they seem right.
