I've never been to a steam rally. What goes on at them.
Loads of beardie blokes in socks and sandles, drinking warm beer and looking at 100 year old external combustion engines is what I imagine. Am I right?

No. It's a lot of fun, a lot of interesting old & not so old machinery, a lot of interesting enthusiasts that are keen to share what they know [like us huh, geddit?] & usually a good way to spend a few hours of a weekend afternoon. Usually involves a tractor or two like the ones we used to have too. Worth it just for that tbh.

if by warm beer you mean ale and by that you imply you dont drink it yourself but instead drink lager then you, my friend, are missing out - big time.

I had a minor.epiphany looking at the Zephyr in the garage with a stiff drink the other evening. If I can get some garage time this weekend then I foresee that Mr Angle Grinder and Mr MIG may get broken out.

FFS it's 88 in the shade in my garden right now and at a temperature capable of sustaining lava in a liquid form in the workshop.

My afternoon has mainly consisted of Mojitos and Ken Follett. I do not anticipate much of a change bar a swap to Chianti around dinner time.
